St. Clair Shores (MI) 20324 Yale House Explosion 9/17/09 : On Thursday, September 17, 2009 St. Clair Shores Fire Dispatch received multiple calls of a house explosion at 20324 Yale.  St. Clair Shores responded with 3 Engines 1 Rescue and 1 ALS Ambulance, while enroute to the scene Rescue 1 reported to dispatch that he had heavy smoke showing and requested mutual aid from the Roseville Fire Department with an Engine and 3 men.  Arriving on the scene Shores fire units where faced with a fully involved structure with an injured civilian lying on the front lawn.  Crews made an aggressive attack using 2 Engines with 5 - 1 3/4” hand lines.  Crews from St. Clair Shores and Roseville worked through the afternoon to control this fire.  Condition of the injured civilian is unknown.

Hamtramck (MI) Sterling Services Limited Fire 8/26/09 : On Thursday, August 27, 2009 crews from the Hamtramck Fire Department responded to the Sterling Services Limited processing plant, on the report of a fire in a railcar near the flammable liquids storage tanks.  Upon arrival of the Hamtramck Fire Department crews found heavy smoke and fire conditions in the processing plant.  Sterling Services Limited process biodiesel, and stores multiple flammable liquids, and acts as a transfer facility.  Crews wasted no time in calling for additional assistance from the Highland Park and Detroit Fire Departments.  Detroit brought a Box Alarm assignment with numerous Special Calls for Haz-Mat and additional companies.  Hamtramck requested assistance from Marathon Oil in southwest Detroit for their firefighters and foam.  Smoke bellowed 3000 feet into the air and could be seen for 25 miles away.  Crews brought the bulk of the fire under control in an hour and a half, and kept the fire from spreading to the additional tanks in the facility.

Hamtramck (MI) 2960 Hanley 7/26/09 : On Sunday July 26th, 2009 around 1515 hours the City of Hamtramck Fire Department responded to the area of Joseph Campau and Hanley for the report of a dwelling fire.  They arrived to find a vacant 3 family flat next door to 2960 Hanley with fire through the roof of the structure.
Meanwhile the Detroit Fire Department Communications Division transmitted a Box Alarm assignment for E23/46/50 L16 S3 and C9 to the area of Traverse and Erwin for a reported dwelling fire, along with a Still Alarm for E56 and L30 to the area of Hedge and Dwyer for heavy smoke in the area.  E46 reported a false alarm on Traverse and C9 reported to Central Office smoke in the area of Hedge and Dwyer and would investigate.  Central picked up E56 and assigned E23 S3 and C9 on the Still Alarm with L30.  E23 reported smoke showing on Hedge, unable to locate the fire E23 continued down to Mt. Elliott were they reported heavy smoke in Hamtramck.
The Hamtramck Fire Department with 2 engines, 1 ladder and an ambulance was attempting an interior attack along with setting up tower operations when E23 arrived on the scene.  The officer of E23 requested permission from C9 to assist Hamtramck in fighting this fire.  C9 requested Central Office assign E23/46 L30 S3 and himself on a mutual aid assignment to Hamtramck.  Fire was quickly spreading to 2960 Hanley an occupied dwelling, crews from Hamtramck with the assistance from the Detroit Fire Department were able to quickly set up tower operations and stretch a handline into the occupied dwelling where fire had communicated to the attic.  Hamtramck Tower 1 was deployed and quickly knocked down the fire in the occupied dwelling.  Crews with use of numerous handlines and the aid of the tower were able to control the fire and keep it from spreading to the occupied structure to the west of the fire and causing further damage to 2960 Hanley.
In all Hamtramck E1/2 T1 R1 Fire Marshall, Detroit E23/46 L30 S3 and C9 worked for nearly an hour to bring this fire under control.

Harper Woods HazMat Drill 5/6/09 : On Wednesday May 6, 2009, members of the South Macomb Incident Response Team (SMIRT) along with the Harper Woods Fire Department staged a mock Clandestine Meth Lab drill, hosted by Harper Woods.  The training was designed to simulate an average call for a medical problem that turned into a Hazardous Material Situation.
Harper Woods Dispatch was notified of a man with difficulty breathing at the corner of Washtenaw and Beaconsfield.  Harper Woods A-1 was dispatched for a medical emergency and arrived to find a male on the corner with difficulty breathing.  Upon interview of the patient, he stated that he was a passerby and heard a baby crying from the house.  When he went to investigate he noticed a foul odor emanating from the house that immediately made him sick.  The crew of A-1 immediately requested that the Engine respond to the scene for further investigation.
Engine 1 arrived on the scene and was given a quick update from the A-1 crew.  E-1 made entry into the house with an air monitoring device and discovered that the house was filled with drug paraphernalia, weapons and traps.  The officer of E-1 requested that dispatch activate SMIRT, and notify the police.  A perimeter was set up and neighbors were notified of the situation.
SMIRT arrived and was given a size up; they put together an entry team to examine the continents in the house.  RIT was established, a medical team was established to monitor the entry team.  The entry team discovered numerous substances in the house and used specialized equipment to determine the identity of the substances found.  The drill lasted nearly four hours.

Eastpointe (MI) General Alarm 16234 10 Mile 2/23/09 : On Monday February 23rd, 2008 around 8:30 am the Eastpointe Fire/Rescue received a call of a house fire at 16234 Ten Mile Rd. Upon arrival, Command reported heavy smoke and fire conditions.  Crews made an aggressive attack on the fire and a quick knock down was made.  Neighbors reported that the occupant was not home and a primary search reviled the same.  Off duty call backs were made, bringing additional manpower to the scene to aid in overhaul and clean up.  Crews worked for over an hour to control this fire.

Grosse Pointe Woods (MI) 3rd Alarm 19787 Mack 2/18/09 : On Wednesday, February 18, 2009 around 0900 hrs the Grosse Pointe Woods Public Safety Department (Wayne Co. MI) responded to 19787 Mack, the former Grosse Pointe Family Physicians, on a report of smoke coming from the building.  Upon arrival of the first units they reported heavy smoke coming from the building.  The incident commander requested a 2nd alarm, bringing Grosse Pointe Farms Public Safety with a Ladder.  While the 2nd alarm companies where enroute the IC ordered a 3rd alarm bringing Harper Woods Fire Department with an Engine.  Crews made a quick knock down of the fire which was confined to the attic space of the building.  Crews worked for over 3 hours to bring this fire under control.

Eastpointe (MI) General Alarm 21103 Beaconsfield 2/11/09 : On Wednesday February 11, 2009 at 0700 hours, Eastpointe Fire/Rescue received numerous reports of a house explosion with people trapped in the area of Toepfer and Beaconsfield.  E-1 arrived on the scene and reported heavy fire from a collapsed dwelling.  Command immediately requested two ambulances to the scene for two injured civilians; mutual aid was requested from St. Clair Shores and Harper Woods.  T-1 was put into operation and crews made a defensive attack due to the instability of the dwelling.  Command requested off duty call backs and E-2 to the scene with available manpower to supply the numerous hand lines that had been put into operation.  Crews worked through the morning to extinguish this fire.

St. Clair Shores (MI) General Alarm 22625 Amhurst 11/28/08 : On November 28, 2008 around 2130hrs the St. Clair Shores Fire Department responded to the report of a dwelling fire at 22625 Amhurst.  First arriving units reported heavy smoke from the basement of an occupied 1 story ranch style dwelling.  Crews encountered a weakened interior floor and were unable to make a interior attack.  Defensive operations were quickly deployed, all 3 St. Clair Shores stations were commited to this fire with off duty call backs for manpower.  Mutual aid from the Roseville Fire Department with an Engine and 5 men to fill in at the Central Fire Station.

Eastpointe (MI) RIT Training 2008 : During the month of November 2008 the crews of the Eastpointe Fire/Rescue Department took part in their annual RIT training.  They practiced manuvers such as the Denver Drill, wall breach, entanglement, and 4 to 1 mechanical advantage.  Scenarios included mayday drills and firefighter down situations.

Warren Fire (MI) 11247 Engleman 11/18/08 : On November 18th, 2008 around 12:15pm the City of Warren Fire Department was dispatched to a possible dwelling fire in the area of Engleman and Hoover.  First arriving company advised dispatch that they had heavy fire from a 2 story dwelling.  Fire was contained to the attic and 2nd story of the dwelling.  E2/3 L1 R6 and BC worked for about an hour to bring this fire under control.

Highland Park (MI) 303 Elmhurst 11/5/08 : On November 5, 2008 the Highland Park Fire Department responded to 303 Elmhurst at Lincoln for the report of a dwelling fire.  They arrived on scene to find a 2 family flat with heavy fire on the first floor, and in the attic area.  E1/2 L1 responded to the fire, companies work most of the night to bring this fire under control.

Harper Woods (MI) Fire RIT Training : On Monday 7/21/08 & Tuesday 7/22/08 the Harper Woods and Eastpointe Fire Departments were fortunate enough to have a house donated to them for Rapid Intervention Training.  This house was scheduled for demolition and the owners were nice enough to let the fire departments use it for training purposes before it was demolished. Grosse Pointe Farms (MI) 3rd Alarm 4/21/08 : On Monday 4/21/08 the Grosse Pointe Farms Public Safety Department responded to a kitchen fire on Chalevoix near Lewiston.  They arrived to find heavy smoke in the house and fire in the kitchen and dining room.  It required the help of Grosse Pointe City and Grosse Pointe Park Public Safety officers to bring this fire under control.
